Portfolio
STEVEN TUCKER
The purpose of this online portfolio is to communicate and provide evidence of my experience, skills, education and materials developed in relation to Teaching in Queensland Secondary Education.
I am currently teaching Digital Solutions and have authored software to support junior and senior students in learning to code. The software projects include GameFrame, GF Capture the Flag, MyQueryTutor and OurAPI.
Prior to teaching Digital Technology and Digital Solutions in Secondary Education, my teaching experience occurred in the tertiary domain. After working at university as an Associate Lecturer teaching computer programming, in industry as a software developer and CTO, as well as teaching and course writing in the Vocational Education Sector, I have developed a skill set that can additionally aid secondary education students looking towards their future endeavors. I have developed software for Digitech/DigiSol that is used by many schools and across Queensland and now interstate. When teaching at University I was the convener of the final year industry project, where I organised industry projects, allocated students and facilitated the successful development of Digital Solutions.
My presenting experience (while being a school teacher) includes:
* Keynote speaker at the Uber Hax Digital Solutions Workshop (2018)
* Keynote speaker at the QSITE Toowoomba Chapter (2019)
* Presenter at i-Educate - Tools, Code and Community (2019)
* 2 full day Workshop presenter - Turtle, GameFrame, Capture the Flag, PyQt5 (2019)
* Capture the Flag work shop (3 afternoons) for year 9 and 10 DigiTech teachers (2019)
* Presenter at the Digital Technology Skills Expo Sunshine Coast (2021)
As co-author of the paper `An Integrated Approach to Teaching Introductory Programming (Second International Conference on e-Learning and e-Technologies in Education)' I have based my tools on the concepts examined in the paper, such as short feedback loops, allowing students to learn at the times they learn best, at their own pace and providing teachers with the data they need to provide effective differentiation.
Awards:
* Griffith Awards for Excellence in Teaching - Griffith University School of ICT
* Innovation in Teaching - Varsity College 2018
* QSITE Emerging Leader of the Year 2019
Technology is a passion of mine that is second only to teaching. Regardless of the subject being taught, I strive to enhance students' experiences, grow their sense of self efficacy and provide every opportunity I can in today's ever increasingly digital age.
